The Ukrainian Family Hub’s Impact in Warrington
As Vice-Chair of the Ukrainian Family Hub, a charity she founded in 2022, our Founder, Kate, has played a key role in helping Ukrainian families find safety and support in Warrington.
The Ukrainian Family Hub is a volunteer-led group that offers care and a sense of family to those fleeing the war in Ukraine. Open to both hosts and guests under the Government’s Homes for Ukraine and Family Scheme, the Hub provides a safe space for people of all ages. After hosting a Ukrainian family herself, Kate recognised the need for a place where families could connect, share experiences, and access support.
The Hub provides services like English lessons, visa assistance, and job placement help, alongside emotional support for both guests and hosts. Many volunteers are also hosts, offering vital care and building a supportive community. Over 200 Ukrainian families have found comfort and connection at the Hub, where they’ve shared their culture and built new friendships.
The Hub has provided hundreds of coats and school shoes, funded flights to the UK for families seeking safety, and supplied essential resources like laptops and tablets for education. It was also awarded the Warrington Guardian Inspirational Team of the Year Award, reflecting the dedication of its volunteers and supporters. For Kate and everyone involved, giving back is about more than just practical help—it’s about building a community where people feel safe, supported, and part of something bigger.
Revitalising The Daten Sports Club and Community Centre
When Kate became involved in 2022, opening the Ukrainian Family Hub there, The Daten Sports Club and Community Centre was struggling financially and on the verge of closure. By securing crucial funding and sponsoring successful fundraising events (pictured), Kate was able to ensure the Centre’s future.
Her efforts also enabled important renovations, transforming The Daten into a premium events venue. These improvements not only made the Centre more appealing for hosting events but also ensured it could continue to operate and serve the community.
Today, The Daten is a vital resource for the local area, offering a variety of community programmes, including a baby and toddler group, an after-school homework club, and a Memory Café for those with dementia and their carers. These programmes are affordable and accessible, providing essential social support and activities for local families.
